Facial acupressure is a non-invasive, yet highly effective way to cultivate a youthful glow. In this article, I’ll be walking you through eight facial acupressure exercises to naturally lift and brighten your face. 


Facial acupressure is a branch of traditional Chinese medicine that has been shown to reduce visual signs of ageing. Acupressure works by applying gentle pressure to specific acupoints to improve the flow of energy (called chi or qi) and increased circulation to the area. 

Specifically, facial acupressure focuses on releasing tension in facial muscles and stimulating circulation to improve skin texture and quality. In fact, it has many similar benefits to a full facial massage, without requiring an intensive, time-consuming treatment. 


Here are some benefits of adding facial acupressure into your skincare routine:

  • Releasing facial tension and reducing pressure headaches

Acupressure works to rejuvenate your skin from the inside out. It’s not just about focusing on the acupoints themselves, it’s about unlocking the powerful energetic currents that flow throughout your body. The best way to harness this vital life force is through deep relaxing breaths. 

As you move through each acupoint, focus on inhaling deeply and exhaling slowly. This helps promote blood flow and relaxation of your facial muscles. 


  1. Wash your hands 

For best results, clean and dry your hands before performing acupressure. You want to remove any oil or fine dirt particles from your fingers to prevent breakouts.

  1. Between the eyebrows 

This acupoint is known for reducing stress and alleviating headaches, in addition to smoothing glabellar lines. 

Begin by placing your index finger at the midpoint between your eyebrows and applying gentle pressure. Slowly start moving your finger in a small circular motion, gently massaging the area. 

This motion helps boost blood flow and releases tension in the muscle. 

Switch directions and massage in the other direction for 15-30s. Don’t forget to focus on taking deep, calming breaths before releasing this acupoint. 

  1. Mid brow bone

The acupoints above your eyebrows are particularly important for revitalizing dull forehead skin. Plus, there are also beneficial for people who are prone to frontal headaches. 

Begin by tracing a line up from your pupils to the space just above your eyebrow. Place both index fingers on your brow bone in line with your pupils and press gently for several seconds. This helps increase blood flow to the area, oxygenating the skin and delivering a burst of nutrients. 

Take a deep breath in and start to massage both points in a small circular motion inwards. This motion helps soften forehead lines caused by tension and stress.

When you feel ready, switch directions and begin massaging the points in an outwards motion. Take a deep breath and release your fingers. 

  1. Temples 

The temples are another a pressure point that holds a lot of tension. Giving your temples some TLC helps reduce stress and soothe tension headaches. 

To find your temples, feel for the indentation just above your cheekbones, in line with the outer ends of your eyebrows. Gently apply pressure and begin gently massaging the area in a circular motion. 

This area can be quite tender, particularly if you hold a lot of tension in your face so light pressure often feels the best on this acupoint. Don’t feel like you have to apply strong pressure to see benefits, gentle movement can be just as effective! 

Once some of the tension abates, you can increase the pressure but don’t feel like you have to go deeper if it causes discomfort. Switch directions and massage for another 15-30s. 

  1. Under eye 

If you struggle with dark circles or puffiness under your eyes, this acupressure point may just become your favourite. It’s also great for people who get eye strain or tired eyes. 

Start by placing both your index fingers on the middle of your eye bone under your eye. This is a very delicate area, so you want to apply very light pressure to this spot. Instead of a circular motion, pulse your fingers gently on the spot for several seconds before releasing down. 

  1. Outer edge of the nostrils 

This acupoint can help reduce smile lines and it’s also beneficial for people who have sinus issues or congestion. Place both index fingers on the outer edges of your nostrils and press gently. Focus on breathing in deeply through your nose and moving your fingers in a small circular motion. For added relief, you can increase the pressure on this area if it feels good. 

  1. Dimple area 

For a natural cheek lift, suck your cheeks in and place your index fingers on the indentation. Next, relax your face and apply pressure for a few seconds before massaging the area in one direction and then the other. This is a quick way to brighten up the cheek area and give it some natural fullness. 

  1. Below to ear on your jaw 

This next acupressure point is known for relieving tension in your jaw. Place your index fingers on the edge of your jawbone, right below your ear lobes. Like the temples, this area can also be tender so choose the pressure that feels best. Slowly massage in one direction and then switch directions when you’re ready.

  1. Chin

This last point is also great for relieving jaw tension as well as improving circulation around the mouth. Place your index finger on the indentation underneath your lower lip and apply pressure. Repeat the same circular motion in both directions, focusing on breathing deeply to receive the maximum benefit of the practice.


Spending just 10 minutes a day can go a long way in lifting your features and revitalizing dull-looking skin. Not to mention, you’ll feel incredibly calm and relaxed after each session!
