I’ve been teaching Face Yoga for over 20 years now, and if there’s one thing I’ve truly learnt about getting results, whether it’s lifting and toning the face or achieving that energised, healthy glow, It’s this:

Consistency is everything.

Face Yoga isn’t a quick fix. But with just a few minutes of daily practice, your facial muscles start to tone and strengthen. Over time, the skin looks more lifted and firm, circulation improves (which brings that beautiful glow), and the lymphatic system gets a much-needed boost helping your face to look more luminous and detoxified.

It also helps you release stress and tension, which we hold so much of in our face, especially around the jaw, forehead, and eyes. As you practice, you improve your posture, lift the lower face, and support the energy flow (what we call prana in yoga, or qi in Traditional Chinese Medicine).

And honestly? It’s not about your age. Of course, we all naturally lose some muscle tone and bone density as we get older but when it comes to Face Yoga, age matters far less than consistency.

So, the big question is…

How Do You Actually Stay Consistent?

It’s one thing for me to say, “Just do it every day,” and a totally different thing to actually make it part of your daily life.

Here’s a super simple 5-minute daily Face Yoga routine you can start with right now,  just one minute for each technique:

1. Forehead Smoother

Use all your fingers to gently stroke across your forehead.

This relaxes the frontalis muscle, softens tension, and helps prevent lines forming.

2. Eye Area Tapping

Lightly tap with your index fingers around the eye area.

It helps with blood flow, lymphatic drainage, and brings brightness to tired eyes.

3. Cheek Strengthener

Puff both cheeks with air and transfer it from side to side.

This builds muscle tone in the mid-face and helps to lift the cheeks.

4. Jaw Release

Place your thumbs under the jaw and glide them outward toward the ears.

This eases built-up tension and emotional holding, while encouraging lift.

5. Neck Lifter

Tilt your head gently back (only as far as comfortable), keep the lips together, and move the tip of your tongue up and down behind the top teeth at a steady pace, around 60 reps.

This targets the platysma muscle, helping to tone and firm the neck area.

Tips to Stay Motivated and Make It Stick

1. Start Small and Stick to It

Pick just a few simple techniques like the five above and do them every day.

Don’t overwhelm yourself with 30 or 40-minute routines right away, especially if you’re new to Face Yoga.

If you want something even quicker, my 21-Day Face Yoga Course is a great place to start just 3 minutes a day, focused on key areas of the face.

2. Focus on How It Feels (Not Just How It Looks)

Here’s what I’ve learned, with Face Yoga, food, movement, even mindset work:

If I’m doing it just to look good, I lose motivation.

But if I do it because it makes me feel good,  in my face, body, and mind, I naturally stick with it.

The beautiful side effect? You do look great. But more importantly, you feel amazing.

3. Use a Tool Like The Face Yoga Journal

My book, The Face Yoga Journal, is designed to help you stay consistent.

It walks you through 52 key techniques, one for each week of the year, and gives you space to track your progress, set goals, and reflect with gratitude.

It’s undated, so you can start anytime and use it alongside any of my videos or courses.

4. Take Regular Photos

While feeling good is the priority, progress photos can be incredibly motivating too.

Take a photo of yourself every two weeks, same natural light, no makeup.

Over time, you’ll start to notice subtle (and then not-so-subtle) improvements in your skin tone, firmness, and overall glow

5. Use a Mirror During Your Practice

This is a game changer.

Using a mirror helps you:

  • Avoid dragging the skin or creating new lines
  • Check your technique
  • Notice the instant changes as well as the long-term ones

Final Thought

Face Yoga isn’t about perfection or pressure. It’s about creating a beautiful, nurturing moment for yourself each day. Just a few minutes. Your hands. Your breath. Your face.

And the key? Consistency with the goal to feel good.
