BLOG 331: I WORE BROWN EVERY DAY FOR A FORTNIGHT AND HERE'S WHAT IT TAUGHT ME

Can wearing a single colour for two weeks change how you feel? I tried it with brown, and here’s what happened.

I’ve been sharing a few more fashion-focused YouTube videos recently, and the feedback has been fantastic. So today I wanted to share how fashion and wellness are so deeply connected for me.

When I wear clothes, I have only three rules. I ask myself:

  1. What am I going to do today?

  2. What is the weather like today?

  3. How do I want to feel today?

Then I make my decision based on those three points.

Last week, I wore a lot of brown. Recently I’ve been gravitating more towards neutrals. You can watch my YouTube video where I talk more about that. But brown is a colour I’rarely ever wear. I had a few pieces in my wardrobe but they hardly ever came out.

I’ve purchased a few more brown pieces, and even though when I do my colour chart (by the way, ask ChatGPT to do it for you, you just simply put in a photo and it’ll tell you the colours you should be wearing) brown always comes up as a big no-no for me, I’ve found some ways to make it work. If I don’t wear it too close to my face, keep some skin showing, and choose the right makeup, brown can actually suit me more than I thought.

This made me realise something important: I don’t always have to stick to the “rules” of colour charts or what I’ve been told suits me. I can choose colours based on my intuition.

So let me share with you a few outfits I’ve been wearing, and mostly, the lessons I’ve learnt through wearing the colour brown.

1. I don’t have to wear colour to feel joyful

I’ve always been stuck in the mindset that colour equals joy. Looking through my wardrobe, I definitely see a lot of brights, and if I went back 5- 10 years ago, most of what I wore would’ve been bright red, pink, or orange.

But this past week made me realise something: joy doesn’t come from colour. Joy comes from feeling my authentic self and wearing something that truly lights me up inside. And that can even be the colour brown.

2. Brown feels very grounding and helps me feel more connected to the earth

Something interesting I noticed wearing brown is how grounded it made me feel.

Grounding is really important for me. Astrologically, I have a lot of water and air in my chart, so anything that brings in the earth element is really helpful. Of course, I already do wellness practices like going barefoot outside or spending time in nature, but I never realised that simply wearing brown could give me that sense of being rooted, stable, and grounded. And that is definitely something I thrive on feeling.

3. It gets me out of my comfort zone of certain colours

I’ve actually loved how this experiment pushed me out of my comfort zone.

When we walk into a shop, or even choose from our wardrobes, we often pull out the same “fail-safe” colours again and again. By picking a colour I’ve rarely worn in all of my 43 years, I’ve been able to see myself, my fashion, and even my wellness in a slightly different way.

4. It is a chic and summery alternative to black

I do often wear black, and although I’ll always love it, technically it isn’t a colour that suits me either.

Brown, however, has been such a wonderful alternative. It works so well for summer, and I think it’s going to be a great option for autumn too. Like black, it’s neutral and dark, easy to accessorise, and mixes beautifully with other colours. But to me, it has a little more depth and life.

5. I have revived old favourites—like this 15-year-old bag

Although I never wore much brown, I realised I already had some great brown-and-gold accessories. This week, I revived my Mulberry bag, which I’ve had for about 16 years but hadn’t used for 7 or 8.

It pairs perfectly with brown outfits, and the suede and tassels give a nod to autumn trends. I also started using my small Michael Kore cross body back after not using it for a good few years. I love bringing older pieces I’ve had for many years back to life, and I plan to keep them alongside newer ones.

6. That fashion and wellness are so connected for me

And this final lesson won’t surprise many of you: fashion and wellness are deeply connected for me.

I talk about it in my YouTube videos, but also in my Face Yoga Retreat course, which is all about lifting techniques for the face, calming techniques for the mind, and practices for the body. Alongside that, I share wellness hacks, like how fashion and homestyle can be integrated into your life to make you feel better in body and soul.

Final Thoughts

I know this is a very random blog today, but recently I’ve been called to share more of what I’m intuitively feeling and what’s happening in my life. My hope is always that some of it inspires you in your own.

So this week, it was brown. A colour I never thought I’d wear that often, but one that ended up teaching me more than I expected, about joy, grounding, stepping out of comfort zones, and the beautiful connection between fashion and wellness.
