BLOG 333: ADAPTING YOUR FACE YOGA FOR CLIMATE AND WEATHER IN ALL SEASONS
Aug 29, 2025I definitely didn’t used to feel a connection to the changing seasons. I would feel a sense of excitement and contentment as the warmer weather arrived in Spring, but by mid-August, I’d start to dread the colder months coming here in the UK.
Then, a couple of years ago, I started tuning into all the cycles in my life. It began with living in sync with my menstrual cycle, then the lunar cycle. I also started to notice cycles in other areas of my life, like relationships, work, and health. There was something quite freeing about recognising that nothing stays the same forever and that everything is constantly changing.
As I started applying this mindset to the seasons, I suddenly felt more inspired by the Autumn leaves and more grateful for the cosy, dark winter nights, instead of longing for Summer. I even began to adjust my wellness habits, like my Face Yoga and skincare, to align with the seasons. This not only nourished my skin in a way that suited the climate and weather, but it also helped my mind and body feel more connected to the natural world, its cycles, and everything around me.
One of the most beautiful things about Face Yoga is that it’s not just about appearance, it’s about energy, emotion, and the whole self. Just as nature shifts its rhythm with the seasons, so do we. In Summer, we may feel more expansive and outward; in Winter, more inward and reflective.
When you adapt your Face Yoga to the season, you’re not only caring for your skin, you’re honouring your body’s natural cycles. It’s also important to remember that our skin is a living organ that constantly responds to its environment. Research has shown that environmental factors like temperature, humidity, and UV exposure significantly affect skin hydration, barrier function, and even how quickly skin ages (Engebretsen et al., 2016; Kim et al., 2019).
That means in Winter, when the air is cold and central heating is on, we often experience dryness and sensitivity. In Summer, we might notice more oiliness or puffiness, and our skin becomes more prone to sun damage. By gently shifting both our skincare and Face Yoga practices with the seasons, we can support our skin to look and feel its very best.
Let's explore how to lean into each season and care for our skin as we do this.
Spring Face Yoga and skincare: let's detox & renew
Spring is the season of renewal. After months of winter hibernation, our skin can look a little dull and sluggish. This is the perfect time to focus on circulation, detoxification, and fresh energy.
-
Face Yoga focus: Incorporate gentle lymphatic drainage moves, like light sweeping with your fingertips along the jawline and down the neck to help release toxins and reduce puffiness. Breathwork can also be powerful here: deep inhales through the nose, slow exhales through the nose, to energise and refresh.
-
Skincare support: My Pro Glow Exfoliator from the Fusion range is wonderful for spring. Using it once or twice a week helps to gently lift away dead skin cells, revealing brighter, fresher skin underneath. Pair this with the Pro Hydrate Toner to balance and refresh after cleansing.
Spring is also a great season to get outdoors, move your body, and reconnect with your breath, all of which beautifully complement your Face Yoga.
Summer Face Yoga and skincare: let's cool & protect
The warmth of summer can bring joy, but also challenges for the skin. Heat, humidity, and UV exposure can leave us with puffiness, redness, and long-term photoaging if we’re not mindful.
-
Face Yoga focus: I recommend cooling and calming techniques, like gently tapping around the eyes to reduce puffiness, or smoothing the forehead with your fingertips to release tension. A study published in Skin Research and Technology (2018) found that facial massage increases microcirculation, which is wonderful for calming inflammation and encouraging a natural glow in Summer.
-
Skincare support: Hydration is key here. My Pro Lift Moisturising Serum contains powerful botanicals that hydrate deeply without feeling heavy, making it ideal for warmer weather. Pair this with a good natural SPF (every single day, even in the UK!) to protect your skin from sun damage.
-
Tip: If your skin feels extra warm, keep your serum in the fridge and apply it cool, it doubles as a soothing treatment after sun exposure.
Autumn Face Yoga and skincare: let's nourish & strengthen
Autumn is a season of transition. The days get shorter, the air becomes cooler, and our skin can start to feel drier. Emotionally, we often shift into a more reflective state, which makes it a lovely time to slow down and nourish ourselves.
-
Face Yoga focus: Gentle, grounding practices work well here. Try placing your palms over your cheeks, closing your eyes, and taking three deep breaths as you hold your skin softly, this brings warmth and a sense of calm. Slow massage around the jaw and temples can also help release stress.
-
Skincare support: This is the time to strengthen your skin barrier. The Pro Nourish Cleanser in my Fusion range is perfect for this season, it’s rich yet gentle, helping to cleanse without stripping away natural oils. Following with the Pro Lift Moisturising Serum helps to lock in hydration as the air gets drier.
Autumn is also a beautiful time to reflect, journal, and integrate calming self-care rituals, which complement your Face Yoga beautifully.
Winter Face Yoga and skincare: Let's hydrate & warm
Winter can be harsh on the skin. Cold air outside and central heating inside create a double whammy of dryness, dullness, and tightness. It’s also the time of year we can feel lower in energy and mood, which shows on the face.
-
Face Yoga focus: In winter, I love practices that boost circulation and bring colour back to the skin. Try “cheek lifts” (smiling gently with lips tucked in and placing fingers lightly on the nasal labial folds to add resistance) or massage around the lips to soften lines and prevent dryness. Studies on facial exercise (Mukai et al., 2018) suggest these techniques improve muscle tone and circulation, giving the face more lift and vitality.
-
Skincare support: Richer hydration is essential. My Pro Renewal Mask is a winter favourite as it deeply nourishes and leaves the skin feeling plump and radiant. I also recommend layering your Pro Lift Moisturising Serum under your regular moisturiser for an extra hydration boost.
And don’t forget, SPF is still important in winter. UV rays are present year-round, even when it’s cloudy.
Quick guide
Here’s a simple seasonal guide you can return to whenever you need a reminder:
-
Spring: Lymphatic drainage, exfoliation, and fresh breathing exercises.
-
Summer: Cooling massage, eye tapping, lightweight hydration, and SPF.
-
Autumn: Grounding massages, nourishing cleansers, strengthening the skin barrier.
-
Winter: Circulation-boosting moves, rich hydration, lip and eye care.
My final thoughts
Seasonal shifts are a reminder that our skin, just like nature, thrives on rhythm and care. By making gentle adjustments like adding a few Face Yoga moves, tweaking your skincare products, and listening to your body, you can enjoy healthy, glowing skin all year round.
