BLOG 343: HOW I LOOK & FEEL ENERGISED WHEN THE DAYS GET SHORTER
Nov 09, 2025
As the days get shorter and the light fades earlier, it’s completely natural to feel your energy dip. I always notice it around this time of year, that gentle shift as autumn and winter arrive, the light feels softer, and everything slows down a little. There’s something really beautiful about that, but it can also leave us feeling a bit sluggish, tired, or even slightly low. I used to resist that slower feeling. I’d try to push through and keep my energy high all the time. But over the years I’ve learned that these two seasons are all about balance. It’s about honouring the body’s natural rhythm while giving it a little extra support in gentle, nurturing ways.
Here are a few of my favourite ways to naturally boost your energy and mood as the days get shorter. These are things I personally do, and they make such a difference to how I feel, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally too.

1. Morning Face Yoga
Even two or three minutes of Face Yoga in the morning helps to wake up the circulation and lymph flow, leaving you feeling instantly brighter and more awake. I love to start the day with gentle tapping all over the face, especially around the cheeks and forehead, or by massaging the cheeks in circular motions with my fingertips.
It’s amazing how something so simple can change your whole morning. It’s not just about the physical benefits (although those are wonderful for lifting, toning, and boosting glow), it’s about how connected it makes you feel. You’re literally waking up your face, your senses, and your energy.
Sometimes I’ll do this before I even get out of bed, just sitting quietly and taking a few deep breaths while I massage my face. Other mornings I’ll do it after cleansing, applying a few drops of my Fusion by Danielle Collins Pro Lift Moisturising Serum, and using that moment as a little ritual to set the tone for the day.
Generally, I do my full Face Yoga practice in the evenings when I have more time, but I like to add this little morning massage to my routine in the colder months.
2. Move My Body
When it’s dark, cold, or rainy outside, it can be so tempting to stay cosy on the sofa (and honestly, there’s a time for that too!). But even a little bit of movement makes a huge difference to how I feel.
If it’s too dark to go for a walk, I’ll do five minutes of gentle stretching or yoga in the living room. Some mornings I just roll out my mat and move intuitively, there’s no structure, no pressure, just listening to what my body needs that day.
Movement helps to shift stagnant energy, improve circulation, and release endorphins, all things we need more of during the darker months. And it doesn’t have to be long or intense. Sometimes I’ll just put on a song I love and dance around the kitchen with my daughters. That counts too!
The key is to move in a way that feels good. When you do that, your body naturally starts to feel lighter, more open, and full of vitality.
3. Get Morning Light
This is such a simple one, but it’s honestly life-changing. Even on grey days, natural light helps regulate your body clock (your circadian rhythm) and supports deeper, more restorative sleep at night.
I make a point of stepping outside first thing in the morning, even if it’s just for a few seconds. I’ll stand in the garden if it isn’t raining, breathe in the crisp air, and feel the light on my face. It’s a tiny act, but it helps to reset my energy for the day. If it’s really wet and cold, I just open a window and stick my head out!
If you can, open the curtains wide as soon as you wake up or sit by a window while you do your morning Face Yoga. Getting that natural light early in the day helps your body know it’s time to wake up, and it really does lift your mood.

4. Nourish My Mind
Our mental energy is just as important as our physical energy, and I really notice how much it impacts everything, my mood, my focus, my skin, even how I hold my posture and express myself. When my mind feels calm and positive, everything else follows.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned over the years is that how we feel on the inside shows up on our face. Stress, lack of rest, or emotional tension can all appear as dullness, puffiness, or tightness in the skin. On the other hand, when we take time to nourish our mind, our skin often starts to glow from within, it’s incredible how closely the two are connected.
To support my mind, I love doing simple, nurturing practices that help me stay grounded and positive. I start most mornings by repeating a few positive affirmations, gentle reminders that I am calm, capable, and enough. Journaling is another favourite, even just a few minutes of writing helps me clear my head and set intentions for the day ahead.
I also find EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) so powerful for releasing stress and shifting my mindset. If I ever feel overwhelmed, a few minutes of tapping helps to bring me back to balance. And of course, getting enough sleep, taking my vitamins, and nourishing myself with wholesome food are all part of that mental self-care too.
When we give our mind the same care and attention we give our body, everything flows more easily. Our thoughts feel lighter, our energy steadier, and our natural radiance shines through, inside and out.
As we move through autumn and into winter, I like to think of energy not as something we have to chase, but something we can gently cultivate. It’s not about doing more, but about doing small things with more intention.
When we fill our days with these little rituals of care, Face Yoga, movement, light, self-nourishment, our energy rises naturally. Our mood lifts, our body feels lighter, and our mind feels calmer.
I’ll be focusing on all of these practices over the coming months, and I hope you’ll join me in doing the same. Let’s make this season one of calm energy, inner warmth, and self-connection.
