BLOG 355: THE 5% SHIFT: THE SMALL HABIT THAT HELPED ME BUILD A GLOBAL WELLNESS BRAND

For the first few years in business I believed that success came from big leaps. Big decisions. Big risks. Big moments of change. But after a few years and most certainly now, after 20 years of building a global wellness brand, I realised something very different. The biggest transformations rarely come from dramatic shifts. They come from small, consistent, aligned actions. Just 5% at a time.
I call this The 5% Shift.
A 5% shift is simply a small change, a gentle up-level. It’s not overwhelming. It’s not exhausting. It’s not about turning your whole life or business upside down. It’s about making one small improvement which is intuitively led, that moves you forward slightly. But that small shift can often be the difference that makes the difference.
Because when you make a 5% shift consistently, day after day, week after week, those small changes begin to compound into something powerful. They become the tipping point for real growth. And in my experience, the most effective 5% shifts come from two simple things:
Aligned action and consistent action.
What is aligned action?
Aligned action is very different from busy action. Many of us spend our days ticking off tasks, replying to messages, posting on social media and doing all the things we think we should be doing in our businesses. But aligned action comes from a different place. It comes from trusting your intuition and asking yourself a simple question:
What is the next right step?
Not the ten-year plan.
Not the perfect strategy.
Just the next right step.
Very often we already know what that step is. But instead of acting on it, we second-guess ourselves. We wait. We overthink. The 5% Shift is about learning to trust that intuitive nudge and taking a small step forward.
Why consistency matters more than intensity
Another key part of the 5% Shift is consistency. It’s easy to feel inspired for a few days or weeks and then lose momentum. But real progress in business and life comes from showing up consistently, even in small ways. You don’t need to do everything. You just need to do something small that moves you forward.
A single email to your community.
One helpful piece of content.
A small improvement to your website.
Reaching out to one potential collaborator.
Each of these may feel small in the moment. But over time, if you keep doing this small action over and over this creates real momentum. And momentum changes everything.

Often we think we need to reinvent ourselves or completely change direction to see results. But in reality, sometimes it’s just a 5% shift that creates the breakthrough.
A slightly clearer message in your marketing.
Committing to posting on a social media platform daily.
Slightly tweaking the colour scheme in your branding.
Writing a weekly blog.
Sending a newsletter to your community.
These small up-levels can become the tipping point that moves your business, your visibility or your impact to the next level.

Three simple ways to start your own 5% Shift
If you’d like to begin applying this idea to your own life or business, here are three simple places to start.
1. Trust the next intuitive step
Take a quiet moment and ask yourself: What is one small action that would move my business forward right now? Don’t overthink it. Just feel into your body, listen to your first intuitive answer and choose the next small step and take it.
2. Make one small improvement
Look at one area of your work, your content, your website, your offers, or the way you communicate your message. Ask yourself: What would a 5% improvement look like here? Small refinements often create surprisingly powerful results.
3. Focus on consistency
Rather than trying to do everything perfectly, focus on showing up regularly. Small, consistent action always beats occasional bursts of effort. Small shifts create extraordinary results. The beautiful thing about the 5% Shift is that it removes the pressure to do everything at once. Instead of waiting for the perfect moment, the perfect idea or the perfect strategy, you simply focus on the next small step.

Trust your intuition.
Take aligned action.
Repeat.
And over time, those small shifts begin to change everything.
